At its heart this is a show about how you protect someone you love without diminishing what makes them who they are. Allegra's inner musical world keeps colliding with ordinary life: sometimes the orchestra plays only in her imagination, and sometimes it spills out into the world around her, pulling streets, shops and living rooms into full song. The result swings between comedy and tenderness, with the cast delivering complete musical numbers rather than snippets. The Harold Pinter Theatre is a good home for it. Opened in 1881, it seats around 780 across stalls, dress circle and upper circle, so it is compact enough that the performances land close up. It sits on Panton Street, a short walk from Piccadilly Circus Underground station, with Charing Cross also nearby.
