About One Day

About One Day

One Day is a new musical based on David Nicholls' internationally bestselling novel, playing at the Garrick Theatre in London's West End from 17 November 2026. Emma and Dexter meet on the night of their graduation, and the story returns to them on the same day every year, following their friendship, love, missed chances and second chances across two decades.

The book is by David Greig, with music and lyrics by Abner and Amanda Ramirez of the US band Johnnyswim and additional material by Jeremy Sams. The production is directed by Max Webster, the Tony and Olivier Award nominee behind Life of Pi, and is based on the novel and the Focus Features film.

What to expect

Like the novel, the musical moves through the years one day at a time, so you watch Em and Dex grow up, drift apart and find their way back to each other. One Day runs for approximately 2 hours 40 minutes including one interval and is recommended for ages 12 and over. It contains drug and alcohol misuse, very strong language and strobe lighting.

The Garrick Theatre and getting there

The Garrick Theatre is at 2 Charing Cross Road, a one-minute walk from Leicester Square station (Northern and Piccadilly lines) and about three minutes from Charing Cross. It opened in 1889 and is a Grade II listed building.
