Nottingham punches well above its weight when it comes to cinema. With 7 venues across the city, including some genuinely outstanding independent cinemas, the East Midlands capital offers a film-going experience to rival cities twice its size. Here is our guide to cinemas in Nottingham.

Nottingham's Cinema Scene

What makes Nottingham special is the strength of its independent cinema scene. While the city has the usual chain multiplexes, it also boasts cinemas like the Broadway and the Savoy, which give Nottingham a cultural depth that many larger cities lack. The city centre is compact and walkable, meaning most cinemas are within easy reach of the tram network and Nottingham station.

Major Chain Cinemas

Cineworld Nottingham at The Corner House, 29 Forman Street, NG1 4AA, is the city's main multiplex. Located in the Corner House entertainment complex, it has plenty of screens and is the first choice for opening-weekend blockbusters. The venue is right in the city centre, close to the Old Market Square.

Vue Nottingham at 29 Forman Street, NG1 4AA, shares the Corner House complex with Cineworld, giving cinema-goers a choice of chains in the same location. Vue typically offers slightly lower ticket prices than Cineworld, so it is worth comparing before you book.

Showcase Cinema de Lux Nottingham at Redfield Way, Lenton, NG7 2UW, is a premium multiplex on the western edge of the city. Showcase's Cinema de Lux venues feature reclining leather seats and a generally more upmarket experience than standard multiplexes. It is best reached by car and has generous free parking.

Independent and Arthouse Cinemas

Broadway at 14-18 Broad Street, NG1 3AL, is Nottingham's flagship independent cinema and one of the finest arthouse cinemas in the UK. It screens an outstanding programme of independent, foreign-language, and classic films across its screens, complemented by a lively cafe-bar that is a hub for Nottingham's creative community. If you visit one cinema in Nottingham, make it Broadway.

Savoy Cinema Nottingham at 233 Derby Road, NG7 1QN, is a beautifully restored single-screen cinema with a rich history. The Savoy has been entertaining Nottingham audiences since 1935 and retains much of its original Art Deco charm. It screens a mix of mainstream and independent films at affordable prices, and the experience of watching a film in such a characterful building is genuinely special.

Arc Cinema Beeston at 2 Station Road, Beeston, NG9 2WJ, serves the popular suburb of Beeston, just south-west of the city centre. It offers a friendly, community-focused cinema experience.

Arc Cinema Hucknall at The Byron, High Street, Hucknall, NG15 7HJ, brings cinema to the north of the Nottingham area in the market town of Hucknall.

Premium Formats

Cineworld Nottingham is the most likely venue for IMAX and 4DX screenings in the city. Showcase Cinema de Lux offers its own enhanced experience with extra-large screens and Dolby Atmos sound in its premium auditoriums. For a different kind of premium experience, Broadway's main screen offers superb picture and sound quality in an intimate setting that multiplexes simply cannot match.

Finding the Best Deals

Vue Nottingham typically offers the lowest standard ticket prices among the chains. The Savoy is remarkably affordable for the quality of the experience, and Broadway offers concession pricing for students, under-25s, and members. Cineworld Unlimited and Odeon's MyOdeon membership both work at Nottingham venues. Midweek screenings (Tuesday to Thursday) are cheaper across the board.
