概要
概要 To Kill A Mockingbird
What Is To Kill A Mockingbird About?
Set in 1930s Alabama during the Great Depression, To Kill A Mockingbird follows small-town lawyer Atticus Finch as he defends Tom Robinson, a Black man falsely accused of a serious crime. Told partly through the eyes of Atticus's young daughter Scout, the story explores racial injustice, moral courage, and the loss of childhood innocence. Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel - one of the most read and most banned books in American literary history - comes to life in Aaron Sorkin's critically acclaimed stage adaptation, directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher.
Sorkin's version asks harder questions than you might expect - about complicity, moral evolution, and the cost of standing up for what is right in a community that would rather look away. It's a courtroom drama with real urgency, and it lands differently every time.
The Cast and Creative Team of To Kill A Mockingbird
Richard Coyle returns to the role of Atticus Finch, following his widely praised performance in the 2022 West End production at the Gielgud Theatre and the subsequent UK and Ireland tour. Coyle brings a quieter, more conflicted Atticus than audiences might expect - one who earns his heroism rather than simply embodying it. Further casting for the 2026 West End season will be announced in due course.
Aaron Sorkin - best known for The West Wing, The Social Network, and A Few Good Men - has written a script that gives Lee's story a contemporary edge without losing its roots. Bartlett Sher, who spent over a decade as Director of Lincoln Center Theater in New York, brings the same precision he has applied to acclaimed productions of My Fair Lady and The King and I.
Seeing the Show at Wyndham's Theatre
Wyndham's Theatre on Charing Cross Road seats around 750 people, which makes it feel intimate by West End standards. The Stalls offer the closest, most immersive experience for a play driven by performance and text. The Dress Circle rows A-D give you a slightly elevated view that captures the full staging clearly, and acoustics throughout the house are excellent for spoken drama. No seat here feels remote from the action.
The venue is a five-minute walk from Leicester Square Tube station (Northern and Piccadilly lines). Step-free access is available via the side entrance on Charing Cross Road - contact the box office in advance. The captioned performance is on Saturday 11 July 2026 at 2pm, and the audio described performance is on Saturday 1 August 2026 at 2pm.
