What you will see inside the bunker
The War Rooms were sealed at the end of the war in 1945 and have been kept much as they were left. Highlights of a visit include:
- The Cabinet Room, where Churchill and his ministers met during air raids
- The Map Room, with wartime maps still on the walls and telephones on the desks
- The Transatlantic Telephone Room, disguised as a private lavatory, used for secure calls with the White House
- Churchill's bedroom and the cramped offices and corridors where staff lived and worked
The Churchill Museum tells the story of his life and career through speeches, letters, photographs, personal belongings and interactive displays.
How entry works on the day
Arrive at Churchill War Rooms on King Charles Street, London SW1A 2AQ, a few minutes before your time slot with your mobile ticket and a valid photo ID. Collect your audio guide inside and follow the route through the bunker and museum. The site is usually open from 9:30am to 6pm, and the nearest Underground stations are Westminster and St James's Park, both a short walk away.
Large bags and luggage, mobility scooters and sharp metal objects are not allowed. Travel light, as the underground corridors are narrow and can get busy at peak times.
Cancellation
The standard entry ticket can be cancelled free of charge up to 14 days before your time slot. The options that add the Political London audio tour or the Westminster guided walk cannot be cancelled or rescheduled.
