Another gem from the Firmdale group, Ham Yard Hotel occupies a vibrant village-like development just off Piccadilly Circus. Built around a tree-filled courtyard garden, the hotel has a distinctly urban-cool feel — think bowling alley, rooftop terrace, spa, gym and a 190-seat theatre space, all wrapped in Kit Kemp's signature colourful interiors. Each of the 91 rooms is individually designed with floor-to-ceiling windows and bold, contemporary style.

The location is outstanding for a night at the theatre. Piccadilly Circus is a one-minute walk, and the Criterion, Gielgud, Apollo, Lyric and Queen's theatres are all within five minutes on foot. The hotel's own restaurant serves excellent modern British food, and there's no shortage of Soho dining options on the doorstep. The rooftop terrace — with views across to the BT Tower — is a real highlight on a warm evening.
