About London Eye Tickets: Standard Entry
London Eye Tickets | South Bank, London
Book London Eye tickets for one of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK. Located on the South Bank of the River Thames, the London Eye offers 360-degree panoramic views of the capital from 135 metres above ground. Each rotation takes approximately 30 minutes, giving you plenty of time to spot famous London landmarks including Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral and The Shard.
About the London Eye
The London Eye opened in 2000 as part of the millennium celebrations and has since become one of the most recognisable landmarks on the London skyline. Standing at 135 metres tall, it was the world’s tallest observation wheel when it opened and remains the tallest cantilevered observation wheel in Europe. Over 3.5 million visitors ride the London Eye each year, making it one of London’s most visited paid attractions.
The London Eye features 32 sealed glass capsules, each representing one of the London boroughs. The capsules are fully climate-controlled and can hold up to 25 guests, though standard tickets mean you share with other visitors. The wheel rotates slowly and continuously, so you step on and off while it moves. The rotation is gentle enough that you can walk around freely inside the capsule throughout the experience.
What You Can See from the London Eye
From the top of the London Eye, you can see up to 40 kilometres in every direction on a clear day. Directly below you is the River Thames, with Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament to your right. Looking east, you can see St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge and The Shard. To the west, you can spot Buckingham Palace and the green expanse of Hyde Park. The London Eye is particularly popular at sunset and after dark when the city lights up.
London Eye Location
The London Eye is located on the South Bank, next to the Southbank Centre and a short walk from Westminster Bridge. The nearest tube stations are Waterloo (5 minute walk) and Westminster (10 minute walk across the bridge). The attraction sits within the Southbank area, surrounded by restaurants, bars and other attractions including the SEA LIFE London Aquarium and the London Dungeon.
