About The Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon is the funniest, most gloriously irreverent musical in the West End — a Tony Award-winning masterpiece from the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, co-written with Avenue Q's Robert Lopez. Playing at the Prince of Wales Theatre right on Leicester Square, in the beating heart of London's West End theatre district, this outrageous musical comedy follows two mismatched Mormon missionaries dispatched to Uganda with predictably chaotic results. It skewers organised religion, American naivety and musical theatre itself with such precision and warmth that audiences can't help but love every anarchic minute.

If you're a fan of the brilliantly constructed chaos of The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre, The Book of Mormon delivers laughs of an entirely different but equally relentless calibre — big, brassy, Broadway-style comedy that doesn't let up for its entire two-hour run. Mel Brooks fans will find a kindred spirit here too, much like the gleeful bad taste of The Producers at the Garrick Theatre. And if you want to round out a week of comedy theatre in London, the Titanic parody Titanique at the Criterion is another brilliantly unhinged option.

The Prince of Wales Theatre is a short walk from Leicester Square tube station, with excellent transport links across central London. The Book of Mormon is strictly for adults — it earns its 16+ rating several times over — but for those who can handle it, it stands as one of the greatest achievements in modern musical comedy. Book your West End tickets early: this show has never had an empty seat since it opened, and for very good reason.

The funniest thing I've ever seen — on stage, screen or anywhere. I was crying with laughter within 10 minutes. An absolute masterpiece.

If you love South Park, you'll love this. If you don't, you'll probably still love this. The songs are brilliant and the cast is incredible.

Hilarious but definitely not for everyone — some of the humour is very edgy. If you're comfortable with that, it's the best comedy show in London.
