Overview

About My Uncle Is Not Pablo Escobar

What Is My Uncle Is Not Pablo Escobar About?

Alejandra, Lucia, Honey and Catalina - four Latinx women from South London - stumble onto a money laundering contract between a major bank and drug cartels. What follows is part telenovela, part heist, and entirely unlike anything else on a London stage right now. Co-created by Valentina Andrade, Elizabeth Alvarado, Lucy Wray, Tommy Ross-Williams and Joana Nastari, the play is rooted in real experiences and built around the question of what it means to be both Londoner and Latinx - visible in your neighbourhood, invisible to the institutions around you.

The show mixes confetti, vogue balls and sharp political commentary in a way that feels genuinely joyful without softening its edges. It won the OFFIES Special Recognition Award for Representation and was a finalist for Best Production at the OFFIES Awards 2024. This run at Brixton House follows a sold-out initial engagement.

Why This Show Stands Out

Critics have called it "energetic and exciting" (Morning Star) and praised its "brilliant writing and perfect comedic timing" (The Reviews Hub). It's the kind of theatre that reminds you a stage can be raucous and political and funny all at once - and that stories from South London's Latinx community deserve exactly this kind of platform. English, Spanish and Portuguese surtitles run at every performance, making the show genuinely accessible to diverse audiences.

Directed by Tommy Ross-Williams and Lucy Wray, with choreography by Myron Birch and sound design by Xavier Velastín, the production has a kinetic energy well suited to Brixton House's intimate space. At 90 minutes with no interval, it is a tight, punchy night out.
