Mayfair, London
Brown's Hotel holds the distinction of being London's first hotel, founded by James Brown — Lord Byron's butler — in 1837. Set on prestigious Albemarle Street in Mayfair, the hotel blends its rich heritage with the contemporary style of Rocco Forte's meticulous renovation. Alexander Graham Bell made the first telephone call in Britain from this very building.
Today, Brown's offers the acclaimed Charlie's restaurant by Adam Byatt, the intimate Donovan Bar adorned with Terence Donovan photography, and an English Tea Room serving one of Mayfair's best afternoon teas. The rooms are elegant and understated, with Olga Polizzi's signature warm contemporary design. Bond Street and the Royal Academy are moments away, and the theatres of the West End are an easy fifteen-minute walk.

“Dinner at Charlie's was superb and the Donovan Bar is the most sophisticated cocktail spot in Mayfair. The staff are discreet and professional. We walked to the theatre through the Burlington Arcade — very civilised.”

“A beautiful hotel with real character. The Rocco Forte touch is evident everywhere. Rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. Good location for shopping on Bond Street and reaching the theatres.”
Founded in 1837 by James Brown (Lord Byron's butler), Brown's is London's very first hotel. Alexander Graham Bell made the first British telephone call here in 1876. The hotel has hosted everyone from Rudyard Kipling to Theodore Roosevelt.
Very much so. The English Tea Room is one of Mayfair's top afternoon tea destinations. Book at least a week in advance, especially for weekends.
Yes, Rocco Forte hotels are known for being family-friendly. Connecting rooms, children's menus and special amenities for younger guests are available.
Walk south through Mayfair to Piccadilly Circus in about 12-15 minutes, or take the Piccadilly line from Green Park one stop to Piccadilly Circus.
