About YHA London Central

YHA London Central is one of Europe's largest and most modern youth hostels, offering clean, secure budget accommodation in a fantastic location on Bolsover Street, just off Great Portland Street. It's a world away from the draughty hostel stereotype — the building is purpose-built and well-maintained, with a bright communal lounge, a large self-catering kitchen, a licensed café-bar and even a small courtyard garden. Private rooms are available for couples and families alongside the traditional dorm beds.

The location is superb for a budget theatre trip. Great Portland Street Tube station is two minutes away, and Oxford Circus — the gateway to the West End — is a seven-minute walk. Regent's Park is around the corner for a morning stroll, and Marylebone High Street is nearby for coffee and brunch. If you'd rather spend your money on show tickets than hotel rooms, YHA London Central is a smart, sociable choice.

Really impressed. The private room was clean, quiet and comfortable — not luxury but absolutely fine for a weekend. We spent the money we saved on front-row Hamilton tickets. Self-catering kitchen is a big plus for keeping costs down.

Stayed in a four-bed dorm and it was spotless. Good lockers for valuables, decent showers, and the communal areas are nice. Walked to Oxford Circus in seven minutes and got the Tube to our show. Best value accommodation in central London.

Great location and good facilities for a hostel. The dorm was a bit warm in summer and one of our roommates snored, but that's hostel life. Private rooms book up fast so reserve early. The café-bar is a nice social spot in the evenings.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to be young to stay at YHA?

Not at all. YHA hostels welcome guests of all ages. You'll find solo travellers, couples, families and groups of friends. You need to be a YHA member to book, but you can join online for a small annual fee or pay a nightly supplement.

Are private rooms available?

Yes, YHA London Central offers private rooms (twin, double and family) as well as dorm beds. Private rooms have their own en-suite bathroom. Book well ahead as they're popular and limited in number.

Is it safe to store valuables?

Yes, every bed has a personal locker large enough for a laptop and valuables. Bring your own padlock or buy one at reception. The building has 24-hour security and key-card access.

Can I cook my own meals?

Yes, there's a large, well-equipped self-catering kitchen with fridges, cookers, microwaves and utensils. It's a great way to save money. There's also a Sainsbury's Local nearby for groceries.

How do I get to the West End theatres?

Walk to Oxford Circus (7 minutes) and you're at the top of Regent Street — the main theatre district is a further 5-10 minutes south. Or take the Tube from Great Portland Street to Baker Street, then the Jubilee line to Bond Street.
