About The View from The Shard

The View from The Shard takes you to the top of Western Europe's tallest building for the most spectacular views of London. At 244 metres above street level — almost twice the height of the London Eye — the open-air viewing gallery on Level 72 offers an unrivalled 360-degree panorama stretching up to 64 kilometres on a clear day.

The experience begins with an immersive lift journey that whisks you to Level 69 in just 60 seconds, accompanied by a multimedia presentation of London's skyline. Levels 69 and 72 feature floor-to-ceiling windows and interactive telescopes that help you identify landmarks across the capital. Level 72's partially open-air Sky Deck lets you feel the wind in your hair as you gaze out across the endless London landscape. Visit at sunset to watch the city transform from daylight to a glittering sea of lights.

The views are absolutely mind-blowing. We went at sunset and watched the whole city light up — genuinely one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

So much better than the London Eye for views. The open-air level is exhilarating. We could see planes landing at Heathrow in the distance.

Stunning experience. The interactive telescopes are brilliant for identifying landmarks. Go on a clear day and you won't be disappointed.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better than the London Eye?

They're different experiences. The Shard is nearly twice as high, so the views are more expansive. The London Eye gives you a slower, capsule-based experience over the Thames. Many visitors do both.

What happens in bad weather?

The indoor viewing galleries on Levels 69-70 offer spectacular views even in rain. The open-air Sky Deck on Level 72 may close in severe weather. A cloud guarantee lets you return free if visibility is poor.

How long should I spend there?

Most visitors spend 1-2 hours. There's no time limit, so you can linger as long as you like. The bar on Level 69 serves champagne and cocktails.

When is the best time to visit?

Sunset is the most popular and spectacular time — book well in advance. Weekday mornings are quietest. Night visits offer stunning views of illuminated London.
